The corporation is trying to contribute to the development of unusual sciences and technologies. Now we are not talking about commercial projects. The fact is that Google has spent millions of dollars on the fight against cancer, studying the structure of DNA and other ambitious developments.
For this, the parent company Alphabet was founded, which will manage all these projects separately. The first subsidiary called Life Sciences (partly formed on the basis of Google X) will be the site of the development of medical projects.

Google’s hyper-expansion into the uncharted realm calls into question that the company’s ultimate goal is to make a profit. These arguments may not be enough for skeptics to believe in the true intentions of the corporation. But it’s hard to contain your amazement when you hear about 5 impressive projects that the tech mega-giant is working on.
5. PROJECT LOON
The Loon project aims to bring the Internet to the most remote places in the world using huge helium balloons that will reflect the waves of the Internet to the ground.
The balloons will fly high in the stratosphere, moving in wind currents like cars on a motorway. They will receive 4G / LTE signals from cellular bases, relay them among themselves, and then transmit them to wireless devices and stations in remote regions. The goal is to prove that people from hard-to-reach areas do not need expensive and cumbersome cable networks to access the Internet.
The development of the project is moving at a fast pace. The company Google is in talks with global providers. For example, Sri Lanka said it wants to be the first country to take advantage of Loon. At the moment, out of 20 million citizens, only 3 million use the Internet. So if Loon succeeds, it will bring positive social outcomes for the country.
4. NANOPARTICLES TO FIGHT CANCER
One of the projects that went to Life Sciences involves the development of a fashionable name – nanoparticles. In fact, nanoparticles are so tiny that they cannot be seen under a conventional microscope.
Google plans to use magnetic nanoparticles, thousands of which could fit into a single red blood cell. After that, they will attach to the molecules and identify potential signs of the disease. Thus, it will be possible to see cancer before it manifests itself in physical symptoms.
The nanoparticles will send reports of what they find in the body to the user’s magnetic bracelet. They will also be able to transmit constant streams of information about changes in the body at the nano-level before the doctor orders monthly blood tests. This will make it possible to diagnose the disease in advance and suppress it even in its inception.
What are these awful hands in the photo? These are body parts made of synthetic leather that mimic human flesh and blood supply. They are used to test nanoparticles before they are introduced into the human body.
3. SELF-DRIVING CAR
Such cars can be driven without human intervention. With the help of sensors that can detect objects several hundred meters from different directions, the car dynamically adapts to many road situations ( repairs, cyclists, railway crossings ).On a more global level, to move on the road, the car will use GPS and more advanced electronic maps than Google Maps.
The vehicles have been tested on the roads of Mountain View and there have been 14 accidents to date. But let’s be optimistic, the company claims that these accidents were caused by human error, which means that self-driving cars are safer than ordinary ones.
2. SMART CONTACT LENSES
The idea of electronic devices in our eyes is at the same time one of the most terrifying and amazing concepts in the world. It will be an ordinary lens that improves vision, only with a microchip that will analyze the fluid of the eyeball, which can be used to determine the level of sugar in the blood.
This approach will make life easier for diabetics who go through the dreaded daily finger pricking routine by testing their blood for sugar levels. But this practice will become antediluvian compared to the digital lens.
The corporation has already patented small hopeful gadgets. And the pharmaceutical company Novartis has already licensed them. This confirms its serious intentions for a quick introduction into the healthcare market.
1. BASELINE PROJECT
What does it mean to be a healthy person? Life Sciences commissioned the Baseline project to find the answer to this question. It aims at an extensive and detailed study of the human genome, examining the molecular data of thousands of people in an attempt to find the ” baseline ” of a healthy person.
As with the development of nanoparticles, the goal of the project is to identify the signs of heart disease, cancer, and other diseases as quickly as possible. In this case, interactions at the molecular level will be studied to establish how cells develop. In this case, medicine will have time to react before the disease manifests itself.
Google’s computer technology will help Baseline researchers find ” biomarkers ” in genes associated with certain traits. For example, such a biomarker will determine how well a particular person’s body can break down fatty acids. If a problem arises with this, then he will be advised to adhere to a diet in order to avoid illnesses in the future.
The most ambitious of all Baseline projects. It involves the collection of a large amount of data, which confuses and outrages users, especially given the large dependence of Google on advertisers.
Imagine a gene is scanned by the Baseline Project and a person is found to be susceptible to cancer. And then, when the page loads with the help of a Google search engine, a terrible cry is given with the intention of shoving incomprehensible herbal cancer pills.
